rec.woodworking - This is the woodworking newsgroup. It has been around for a long time - since 1984 - which is an eternity in computer years. It is a great place to go to ask woodworking questions - someone is sure to have an answer (buyer beware - advice may be good or bad - you decide). Or you can just lurk on the "wreck" (the nickname for the group) and read everyone else's questions and answers. I don't have time to read it every day, because it is a pretty active newsgroup, but I do check it out every once-in-a-while. To view the FAQ for the newsgroup, go to Gary Robson's web site.

rec.crafts.woodturning - A newsgroup for the woodturners amongst us. I do limited turning, but if you are into it, this is a good place to get good advice from people who are doing it. This is not as active as the rec.woodworking newsgroup, but it has new postings every day.

alt.binaries.pictures.furniture - Neither of the newsgroups above allow the posting of pictures. If you want to post a picture of the furniture you have made or are working on, post it here. Or you can go see what other people have been working on and make constructive comments if you want.

alt.binaries.pictures.woodworking - This is the newsgroup for general woodworking pictures. Another place where you can pick up some interesting ideas. Both this and the alt.binaries.pictures.furniture newsgroup see much less activity than the non-picture newsgroups.
